In recent years Courchevel Moriond (AKA 1650) has seen some superb new and improved amenities. In Dec 2015 Aquamotion literally made waves with the opening of the largest alpine water park in Europe. Amongst its many features, a wave simulator pool allows for guests to enjoy an après-ski surf, as they test their legs riding the tide alpine style.

Over the summer more Courchevel action will spread down the mountain from the A-lister hub of 1850 with the construction of a brand new toboggan track at 1650; set to be ready when lifts open in Winter 2017/18. Not for the faint hearted, the track will run for 3km from the top of the recently refurbished Ariondaz bubble and will be a fast descent down reaching a gradient of up to 25% in parts. There is an even word of designated luge evenings (currently set for Tuesday and Thursday), where the bravest of riders will be able to take on the track in the dark through a floodlit course illuminated with coloured lights.

The inclusion of a ‘super luge’ to Courchevel’s already extensive repertoire of alpine activities, gives the resort an impressive selection rides to choose from covering skiing, snowboarding, surfing and sledging. If one so desires, all 4 pursuits could be completed in the same day without the need to even leave the resort!

It’s true Courchevel is best renowned as the ski resort to ‘see and be seen’ – attracting an exclusive crowd of socialites and royalty to include Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge and the Beckhams. With one of the highest concentrations of Michelin-starred restaurants– five of which have two Michelin stars—Courchevel is not only a favourite destination for seasoned skiers but a magnet for food connoisseurs with a taste for haute cuisine. There is a great selection of Aprés-ski bars offering everything from dancing in ski boots to the quiet wine or cocktail in a cosy bar by an open fire with a live pianist. And there is no place quite like Courchevel for those who feel shopping is a holiday right-of-passage. The streets are lined with quaint little designer boutiques and shops in a catwalk display of Lacroix, Armani, Louis Vuitton and more.

But whilst Courchevel may dazzle with diamonds and Bogner fur trim coats, look beyond the elevated glamour at 1850 and consider a trip down the mountain to Courchevel Moriand to ride Aquamotion waves and a ride the new adrenaline-charged toboggan track. Because beneath Courchevel’s glamorous surface is a diverse resort offering a range of activities to cater for a varied range of interests. After all, that is why so many people love Courchevel; it really is the ski resort where you can have it all!
