Emotions run high when the snow has begun to melt and La Folie Douce wraps up winter with another grand send off. As you dance in your ski boots, pop the cork on a magnum of champagne and share your love for the mountains, the realisation sinks in that this colourful spectacle of festivities has come to an end for another season.
Or has it?!
Home to the most glamorous film festival in the world, it is hard to believe Cannes could get any cooler, but come July 2016, the much loved La Folie Douce team will head downhill to set up house on the shores of the magnetic blue Côte d’Azur. Between the hours of 6pm and 8.30pm- after work or after beach- an explosive party will descend on the beach of the Hotel Barriere Le Majestic, as La Folie Douce ignites a cool atmosphere of good vibes and gastronomic flare. There will be “several spaces”, “several universes” of which will include: The pier, the beach, the bar, the restaurant, the temporary shop….
As the sun begins to set and the stars come out to dazzle, savour the culinary flavours of Franck Mischler and Maryan Gandon’s Dinner Journal. Before the Sweet Insanity Team turns up the heat with a mix of sophisticated beats to draw you to the beach to dance with the sand beneath your feet.
For those who don’t know, La Folie Douce originated in Val d’Isère: a mountain village situation in Tarentaise Valley high in the French Alps. It first opened as refuge at the top of the La Daille gondola, intended for skiers seeking respite. Within six years a small restaurant, La Petite Cuisine, began serving familiar French dishes with a modern twist. From this point onwards the concept rapidly evolved and today La Folie Douce is known worldwide as one of the most stylish and happening après ski parties around. As it currently stands, the ever expanding La Folie Douce has 5 fixed winter locations in the French Alps, with Cannes being the first landmark summer destination.
As I have mentioned in previous blogs: like all things truly amazing that leave you lost for words- it is hard to capture all that is La Folie Douce. But, that which you can expect, is an electric atmosphere to sweep you up and carry you on the most enjoyable of rides. As you sip on delicious cocktails and dine on the finest of food, you will be mesmerised by the eclectic mix of live Saxophonists, singers and dancers who take to the all encompassing surrounding stage, in a captivating spectacle that will leave every sense buzzing.
So, if you are still deciding what to do this summer… then head to Cannes. If not for the glitz, glamour, beach and all things luxurious and French- then for the unmissable experience that is La Folie Douce. Better still, charter a Yacht and set sail on the Mediterranean and enjoy the magical Côte d’Azur from its best angle. Of course, be sure to schedule the obligatory stop off in Cannes to revel in the party of all parties, on the shore of the Hotel Barriere Le Majestic.
