A spring arctic blast made for glorious conditions for the closing weekend in Val d’Isère resort last week. But as the afternoon sun sunk in the Tarentaise Valley, the last home-run of the season disappeared and with it, the last remnants of the ski season for 2016/17. Overall Winter 2016/17 served up some strange and unpredictable weather. The season started with an early pre-season dump in late November with plenty snow to kick of the season in style. In the excitement, Courchevel offered a free-lift day before the resort had even officially opened! Unfortunately, the next decent snowfall did not eventuate till January,  arriving on wild winds. But when the storm eventually passed, skiers were greet with some beautiful bluebird days and plenty of fresh powder to play in. Although there was ample snow fall, it was  largely inconsistent. This combined with intermittent periods of warmer conditions resulted in an unestablished base that  created a considerable high avalanche risk in some areas.

Weather aside, Winter 2016/17 has been an season of change for Consensio with some exciting new developments and additions to our property portfolio. This included 2 beautiful self-catered apartments in the heart of Val d’Isère; an affordable and luxurious ski accommodation alternative for those who dine out regularly or prefer the autonomy of a self-directed schedule.

Winter 2016/17 also saw the introduction of Consensio Experiences & Events. The intention of packaging these services was aimed at maximising our extensive and exclusive network within resort combined with the dedicated concierge service we offer our chalet guests.  Of course, our offerings are not limited to the parameters of a package but they offer a glimpse at the lengths we can go to create the ultimate alpine experience. Consensio Experiences and Events are completely bespoke and tailored to meet the specific needs of our clients. As always, they make the rules and we will attempt to cater every request.

As per tradition, pre-season activity kicked off with our annual Ski Stats event; a relaxed evening of champagne and canapès collaboratively hosted by Welove2ski.com & Consensio. Marking the beginning of the season, this was an opportunity to reflect on the previous season and raise a glass to the new season ahead. With so many industry professionals under the same roof, it seemed a timely occasion to hold a charity raffle in support of Skiing with Heroes. Our collective efforts on the night raised £450 towards the invaluable work this charity undertakes in rehabilitating ex-wounded soldiers.

Best Ski Chalet France 2016- World Ski Awards

One of the greatest highlights from throughout the season was without doubt winning ‘Best Ski Chalet France’ at the 2016 World Ski Awards in Kitzbühel. This was our 4th consecutive year to have won the title, previously winning for Chalet Grande Corniche and Marco Polo. After achieving 9 nominations it was our magnificent chalet Mont Tremblant in Méribel that stole the crown for 2016.

The previous year’s winner – Chalet Grande Corniche in Le Gets, used the summer to expand on what was already an impressive list of chalet features, opening the season with a new in-chalet cinema and an outdoor heated infinity swimming pool. Perched on the mountain top, guests revelled in the opportunity to swim under the stars whilst taking in sweeping valley views that stretch as far as Mont Blanc . To follow, Consensio’s Cocktail of the season comprising of Champagne Perrier Jouët & Truffle syrup made the perfect aperitif before dinner.

Always seeking to excite and entice our clients, we were greatly honoured and appreciative to have had the opportunity to work alongside Duck and Waffle London and their creative and talented executive chef, Tom Cenci to deliver the Ultimate Alpine Breakfast to our guests. To recap here is a brief overview of our partnership.

Following the success of our self-catered apartments in Val d’Isère, next season will also see the inclusion of 2 new apartments in Les Gets. Located in the heart of town, Urban Corniche is an off shoot of the award-winning chalet Grande Corniche. With lots of fun toys and easy access to ski lifts and all resort amenities, this apartment will surely impress any guest list. The 2nd of our new apartments is all about location, location, location! Offering skiers the greatest luxury on a ski holiday, it has prime Ski-In/Ski-out access with the convenient stress-free advantage of being able to ski straight from your front door. Full details of these apartments will be available online soon here.

Said to already be one of the World’s Most Luxurious Ski Chalets (Welove2ski.com), Chalet Marco Polo in Val d’Isère is getting more toys for Winter 2017/18! It’s hard to imagine how a chalet with its very own wine & cheese room, massage & spa treatment rooms (plural intended) and a gold leaf swimming pool with drop down cinema projector screen can get any better – but apparently, it can! In a revamp of the ski boot room, Marco Polo will house it’s very own tele-cabin. In addition, an indoor/outdoor garden will feature an interactive racing car games room that will allow for up to 8 players. There are also murmurs of an in-chalet biathlon shooting range, however this is yet to be confirmed!

After a season of serving an exclusive Duck and Waffle breakfast menu to our guests, we are again in pre-season discussions with Tome Cenci and team as to what new and delicious we can bring to the table in Consensio Chalets for Winter 2017/18.

So whilst that might officially a wrap on Winter 2016/17 but stay tuned as we have lots planned for next season! Meanwhile enjoy some sunshine!
