Les Gets is one of 12 resorts making up the vast Portes du Soleil ski area that straddles the Swiss-French border. Offering a distinctly different ski experience to that of the Trios Vallèes, the Port du Soleil delivers some serious ski mileage with 650km of varied terrain. The majority of runs are suited to the immediate skier but  with so much to choose from, Les Gets is the perfect destination if you are looking for a resort to accommodate a broad range of abilities.

Les Gets itself is a small picturesque village situated at an elevation of 1,172m. Oozing alpine charm, the accommodation available offer is largely chalet-style. This traditional Savoyard ambience extends across a good selection of restaurants and cosy bars. There are plenty of good nightlife spots to checkout with most bars open to 2am– for those looking to power on into early hours of the morning, Igloo night club remains open to 5am. However, if you are looking for a booming après-ski party town, Les Gets might not be the choice for you. Entrenched in history this once traditional dairy farming village is a community that dates back to the 12th century.  The beauty of this resort it that it has not lost its soul.  As such it better known for its warm atmosphere opposed to its party scene, attracting those interested in a more authentic ski experience.

Les Gets is an accredited “Famille Plus Montage” resort.  Children love the mini-train connecting between the main ski-lifts and the Mont Chéry area. There is also a superb kids zone called Grand Cry, designated to families this ski area is only accessible when accompanying a child. Themed around Trappers and Indians, families can safely practice their skills together over small bumps and around bends before stopping by an Indian tepee for some respite. Checkout extensive list of Famille Plus activities in and around the resort.

Whilst ‘family’ might connote ideas of beginner chaos, with 650km skiable terrain there is surely something for everyone in the Les Gets area. Pistes are also generally quieter compared to the Trios Vallèes, making it a popular destination amongst French holiday makers: A telling testament as locals usually know best!
