With the season all said and done, it’s hard to imagine when sitting in a sunny South West London garden with blossoms blooming and skies blue, that this season was a spectacle of record-breaking snow. And it would appear it’s not done yet, with Val d’Isère locals waking Monday morning to a generous 30cm dusting of fresh powder. Word on the mountain is that for the first time in its  82 year history, Val d’Isére will open several lifts to provide access to some Winter pistes. Whilst summer glacier skiing usually resumes in June, with so much snow still on the ground it seems only logical to ski it! So if you didn’t get your winter ski fix or want to return to the Alps for some summer skiing action, lifts open June 3rd 2018.

With countless exciting ventures getting underway Winter 2017/18 was set to be an impressive showreel of highlights from the outset. Looking back at the season, we expanded our portfolio with a new ski-in/ski-out chalet in Courchevel 1850 and 3 stunning new self-catered apartments in Val d’Isère & Les Gets; Grande Corniche was voted Best Ski Chalet France 2017’ at the World Ski Awards; Après-ski reached new heights with SUSHISAMBA Cocktails and boutique gins, Elephant Blanc got a makeover and the dazzling Marco Polo got some superb new toys, including a retro scalextric style racing car game for grown ups and it’s very gondola straight from the mountain, relocated to within the chalet as the ski boot room. Rewind to September 2017 when we held our annual Ski Stats Event in collaboration with and there was a nervous anticipation as we fingers and toes that Winter 2017/18 would not be a repeat of previous seasons, which had seen a consecutive run of low snowfall and even green slopes for Christmas. However, all anxieties were alleviated come late November when the mountain Gods delivered their first gift of the season. I was in Les Gets filming the magnificent Grande Corniche following its win at the World Ski Awards. There was so much snow!!  Lifts in Les Gets even opened early and our chauffeur had to dig the van out for the film crew so we could leave to head upwards for filming in Courchevel in Les Trois Vallèes.

To say the very least, Courchevel delivered in glorious fashion. We were filming at our Ski-in/Ski-out chalets, Shemshak Lodge and Le Namaste. After a slow drive in poor visibility, we awoke to a stunning bluebird day and a fresh dump of powder. Lucky for us, this day called for some on-piste action shots. Kitted up with the best gear in town from our friends at Whitestorm we headed out for first lifts and caught so beautiful footage.

From one week to the next the snow continued…. people were wondering if it would ever stop! By January, resorts such as Val d’Isère had established up to a 6-meter base. Credit must be given to our staff who had their work cut out for them; getting up at dawn and working till late, constantly clearing snow from driveways, doorways, pools and keeping a cheerful smile to serve canapès and champagne. They worked tirelessly and our guest reviews praised their efforts and professionalism.

So what is on the cards for next Winter? On the back of such an impressive season we are already experiencing unprecedented volumes of bookings for next season. Ski holidays during peak dates such as Christmas, New Year, February Half Term and Easter already showing limited availability. View our Peak Date Availability Here>>

Our self-catered apartment portfolio continues to grow with two new ski-in Val d’Isère properties, Tournesol and Lorenzo. We have also just received confirmation of our first apartment in Méribel. Already on sale for Winter 2018/19, we will also start the season with a new chalet in Méribel, Le Grenier. A stone’s throw from the piste, this gorgeous residence features a first class spa and wellness area that will make for a much-welcomed recovery session at the end of long day skiing.

There are plenty of new restaurants, shops and apres-ski bars likely to open with the €200 Val d’Isère’s redevelopment project well underway. In a further move, Val d’Isère is set to become home to France’s highest hotel in 2018/2019, which will be located in the former cable car station at Tête de Solaise. This 40-bedroom boutique hotel will offer a luxurious refuge style experience,  complete with a gastronomic restaurant and spa. Also on the cards, a long-awaited new gondola at La Daille is rumoured to be replacing the existing one providing access to La Folie Douce. Official confirmation is expected in Autumn.

New ski lifts have been proposed in Morzine and Les Gets that will open up the ski area providing better links to the Grande Terche and Avoriaz.

And it in the 3 Vallèes… we are wondering whether it is possible for this ski and dining domain to pick up another Michelin starred restaurant to add to its belt? With 21 stars shared amongst 12 restaurants, Courchevel became home to the first restaurant to be adorned with 3 stars in French Alps. Read our guide to dining amongst the stars in the 3 Vallèes here>>

If you’re not heading to Val d’Isère to try your legs at some summer skiing, enjoy your summer holidays in the sun and we hope to see on the piste in Winter 2018/19.
