Courchevel and Méribel welcome the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships!
The FIS World Championships come to Les Trois Vallées in just over a week – as Méribel and Courchevel prepare to welcome the world’s top snow-sports athletes for 2 weeks of incredible alpine entertainment.
In a break from recent tradition, the move to make Courchevel and Méribel joint-hosts of the competition means that we’ll see a whole host of unmissable sporting and cultural events spread right across the valleys over the February half-term this season. The men’s races will take place in Courchevel, whilst the women’s events will be held in Méribel – a total of 13 competitions between the 5th and 19th of February.
Those heading out for the first week will be treated to the male and female super grand slalom races, downhill races and combined alpine competitions – held on the famous L’Eclipse piste in Courchevel, and the Roc de Fer in Meribel. Piste de L’Eclipse is renowned for its high speed sections – with the fastest downhill skiers reaching 120kph as they reach the final section. Heading into the second week – crowds will be treated to the alpine team parallel races, giant slalom – and leading to a thrilling finale in the final two days – with the women and men’s slalom competition, being held on the 18th and 19th respectively.
Make sure to look out for some of the world’s finest skiers; the championships will see Norwegian ace Lucas Braathen, fresh off the World Cup circuit, facing off his compatriot Henrik Kristoffersen in the men’s slalom, whilst the world numbers 1 and 2 – Mikaela Shiffrin and Lara Gut-Behrami – go head to head in the women’s competition.
The Championships coming to Méribel and Courchevel will bring more to the alps than just world class athletics – these two magnificent resorts will also play host to world class cultural events, live music and more. On the 9th of February, Méribel welcomes Brazilian singer Flavia Coelho to the resort to bring her unique blend of samba, Bossa nova and reggae to the alps to create what’s set to be an unforgettable evening of musical excellence.
Snow conditions are looking glorious – and are set to remain so over the championship period. The world class restaurants and boutiques found in Méribel and Courchevel will be open as normal, and ready to welcome the fun, in what is set to be two of the most exciting weeks in the Trois Vallées calendar.
Consensio is thrilled to operate a number of phenomenal luxury-chalets and apartments in Méribel and Courchevel. These include the incredible Chalet Bacchus, and Chalet Le Namaste, boasting direct piste access – the perfect base from which to explore the magic of Courchevel, and take in all the fun of the championships this season.
