In preparation for the arrival of the World Alpine Ski Championships in 2023, Méribel has added two new lifts for this winter! The red ‘Gypaète’, accessible via the Cherferie chairlift, offers a more challenging variation of the Choucas piste. Boasting numerous bumps and banks, the new route leads to a series of hairpins before joining the blue Roc de Fer piste. Next, discover the new red ‘Daguet’ by starting on the famous black ‘La Face’ then taking a left at the end of the first big wall. This second new red piste cruises down the virgin slope before meeting the forest edge, far away from the hubbub of the main ski area.

Les Gets

This winter, Les Gets has introduced a new uphill-only ski touring piste on Mont Chéry. Sectioned off from downhill skiers, this piste is 3km long with a height gain of 665m. Starting at the bottom of the Chamois piste, it culminates at the summit of Mont Chéry, at an altitude of 1,827m. Les Gets also has a new blue run in Les Perrières, called ‘Les Trembles’. This new slope will make it easier for moderate-level skiers to return to the base of the ‘Perrières Express’ chairlift. A new fun space for children has been created just beside the ESF ‘piou piou’ nursery slope. There are igloos, a snowball wall, a giant mascot, ice caves and lots of fun obstacles that children will love climbing up and sliding down. This mini-North Pole is open seven days a week throughout the winter and will leave your little Eskimos feeling on top of the world.

le refuge de solaise val disere

Val d’Isère

The Refuge de Solaise is fully open for this season (shown above). Perched on a ledge at an altitude of 2,551m, it has the distinction of being the highest hotel in France. The main gourmet restaurant was open for part of last winter and has already established a strong reputation as one of the best addresses in the resort. It is open to visitors for dinner on Wednesday and Sunday evenings, with access via the gondola. This winter also sees the opening of a multi-activity piste along the Manchet Valley for walking, running, cross-country, fat biking, snowshoeing, and sledding. It is marked orange with the aim to provide a wider path for walkers and athletes who spend time in the valley.

The Le Praz gondola, which links Le Praz and Courchevel 1850, has had a €15m investment. The cabins now seat ten instead of four, and the journey time has been reduced to only six minutes. New for this winter is the Freeride Lab, a brand new dedicated freeride area in the Creux Noirs area. The high-altitude area boasts a number of ungroomed runs, including two red and a steep black, not to mention all the fantastic off-piste options.
